Today's Cabin Messages ...

Today's messages are brought to you courtesy of our cabin 6 boys and cabin 7 girls, enjoy!

Encouragement ... Pass it on!

Hey moms and dads, every Friday we will take the time to hear from one of our directors speak into some of Kanakuk's core values. We want you to hear some of the principals that guide our ministry in the summer.

Today, Joel Dolloff speaks to the value of encouraging a child and our why we emphasize this among our staff ...

When I first began working at Kanakuk in 1998, one of the things I was most struck by was how encouraging of an environment it was. I still marvel at what an uplifting atmosphere exists within these gates. I now know it is one of our core values at Kanakuk to see the best in everyone, just as God does in us through the cross. Unfortunately, we live in a world where kids often feel they are not smart enough, not funny enough, not athletic enough, not pretty enough, and just not good enough. They are torn down by teachers, coaches, peers, and media sources telling them what they should be like and how they are falling short.

It is our desire for kids to see God's unconditional love through us. We want each kamper that walks through our gates to understand God made them exactly as He wanted to and that He has a big plan for their life. By offering a wide variety sports and activities, we get lots of opportunities for encouragement. We set attainable, yet challenging goals before kids so every child can experience success. Our staff encourages through successes and failures, and never tears down. It is our prayer, that at the end of your son/daughter's time here, they will leave with their self-esteem at an all-time high! Thanks for entrusting them to us!

Joel

Thanks Joel! Mom and dad, if you are a former Kamper let us know how you experienced this in your time at Kamp. It's always fun to hear your stories!

Kountry Klub Party!

Well hey y'all! We sure did have a blast last night blending the best of both worlds, good old fashioned down home country roots and high society. The result? Watch this video and find out ...

The Tribes are Alive at K-1

Tribal competition commences at K-1. This morning the boys and girls all found out which tribe they will be in for the term. It should be a crazy fun term. Who will will the term?

All right all you Choctaws, Cherokees, Kiowas, and Kickapoos, I'd love to hear a shout out on the blog. Let's see which tribe is still the most loyal. Comment below.

K-1 Behind the Scenes

Kamp is for the kids! And in order to make Kamp a safe, fun place we hire the best kid loving, awesome people we can find. Usually the counselors are the most easily thought of people that make Kamp happen. While they certainly do and have a huge impact, we wanted to take the time on Mondays to have a segment where we go behind the scenes and introduce you to the people that impact Kamp in ways you were perhaps unaware of.

Today, we want to introduce you to K-1's nursing staff. These folks are the ones administering meds, caring for sick Kampers, and soothing all the bumps and bruises that come with summer Kamp. We could not do this without them. I hope you enjoy getting to hear why they love Kamp.

Don't forget to follow us on twitter @kanakukk1 where you will get more daily updates.

Here's a quick recap of our first party of the summer, it was great!

Joe on why he loves K-1

It's I'm 3rd Sunday here at K-1 and as normal, Joe White came to tell the kiddos the story of Johnny Farrier and how we can all live an I'm 3rd lifestyle.

K-1 still holds a dear place in Joe's heart and before he left we got him to briefly state why he loves K-1.

If you'd like to see the full I'm 3rd talk click here

Highlights from the first day of Kamp

A special edition highlight for the first day of Kamp! What a way to kick things off!

It's official ... The first day of Kamp!

For 86 summers K-1 has anxiously awaited this day, the first day of summer, and now it's here. Many people have come through the gates during that time and our directors, Kris and Diane Cooper, have been here for so many opening days. They wanted to let you all know just what this day has meant and means to them still ...

Coop

THE KIDS ARE HERE!!!

The little Whipper Snappers have finally arrived and I can’t begin to tell how excited I am for that. Opening Day at Kamp is one of the most highly anticipated days of the year for me. I’ve been counting down the days (234 to be exact) since life evaporated from Kamp last summer, and today – YES TODAY – today life has been breathed back into Kamp. The smells, the sounds, the excitement, the relationships, the fun, the adventure, the presence of the Creator and His miraculous creation. Oh my goodness – I’m the most blessed man alive! You would think that after 30 some years of opening days, some of the zest would have worn off. But let me tell you, Opening Day at K-1 is my favorite place on earth to be TODAY!

Diane

As a past kamper the memories of opening day hold dear to my heart ... shopping with mom, packing the trunk, the excitement of meeting new friends, the joy of meeting up with old friends, knowing that Kamp pulled me closer to God ... I was going to Kamp!!!

As a director my heart is overflowing with the joy and excitement of knowing that today the kids are coming! I love this day because I, as a director, want to help make K-1 the place where dreams come true. Where gals can come to Kamp, find those new friends, play hard, be mentored by Godly counselors and grow in their relationship with Christ. I love my job! Basically I get to be "mom" for a Kamp full of girls! I love it!

Let the gates open - the arms are ready ... The kids are coming!!!

Share your opening day memories.

New summer New stuff at Kamp

Creativity seems to flow from the gates of Kanakuk. Each summer there are new things being added or improved at each of the Kamps and this year is no different!

We at K-1 are so excited to introduce a new sound system, a new theme to our dining hall and an extra long slip-n-slide for all those hot summer days!

For years the theme of our dining hall has been Indian. Well we decided it was time for a change so we have transformed the dining hall into a KSPN studio. Complete with news desk, flat screens and play-by-play announcers; this place is awesome!

Once we are done catching up on sports in the dining hall, head out to the hill to cool off in the summer heat. This summer Mike Leland and Gary Dale have been working hard on transforming the biggest hill at K-1 into the largest slip-n-slide Kanakuk has ever seen! This football field size slip-n-slide is sure to keep Kampers cool all summer long.

Only 2 more days until the Kampers get here and we cannot wait!
